The NBA does not fine players for yelling at refs - unless it's extremely belligerent. At most, they get a technical foul - which Kobe did not receive.
Kobe yelled at the referee because he had just been given a technical. Please get your facts straight.
And as for what Kobe actually said, I would argue that calling the ref a f****** f** is extremely belligerent.

They brought more attention to this with the over-reaction than if they had just let it go. But they want the over-reaction so that there can be the attempt at "re-programming" our thinking on how gays are viewed and how we speak about them.
Oh no, people in polite society think that you shouldn't refer to homosexuals with slurs! I too miss the days when a person could just demean entire groups of people without any of my personal friends blinking an eye.
80% of the posts in this thread shows just why gay folks need to stand up and promote positive change. Of course most of the anti gay crowd would rather we be nice little quiet gays who don't say anything. We are second rate citizens in their eyes and that needs to change. It's an embarrassment to read the replies in this thread.

He did not get a technical for the "fined" comment.

Do you watch the NBA often?

Happens every day off camera - gays, blacks, whites, hispanics - doesn't make it right. People use these terms in movies - haven't seen any protests.
This is just like Vick and dog fighting. Plenty of people are involved in dog fighting - only Vick goes to jail - excuse me? Where's everyone else?
My point is they love to bag the stars to make their platform known and get their name out. Kobe is just another opportunity in that regard. I am not saying their platform is right or wrong - but this is the point of making examples out of well known figures.

I said that. I said he got the technical, and then had his outburst.

And since even you agree that it's not right to call somebody a f****** f** off camera, I would think you could agree with me that it's important to reinforce that when somebody says that on national TV.
Honestly...it's a shame when you actually catch that much crap for saying something bad about an immoral behavior.
Immoral behavior to you, not to everyone.
I think they're going over the line too, and I say this as a gay man. However, anytime these overpaid babies get money taken away from them, I swear an angel gets its wings

Again - I have a problem with the way these organizations go after stars to indirectly re-educate people. I have a problem with the selective recognition of what Kobe did versus the lack of recognition when others do the same thing.
I would not reinforce men kissing men on TV either. I think it's disgusting and offensive. How would I, being offended, be regarded? Would you take the same stand for me if I took my case to the public airwaves?

It's an NBA team making this effort on its own after one of their employees embarrassed it on national television. There's been no police or governmental involvement here.
It sounds like you're problem is that you are literally prejudiced against homosexuals. But while I may disagree with you that homosexuality is offensive, I defend your right to hold those bigoted values.
