i prefer states like South Carolina, where the "Castle Doctrine" mentality is very strong. there are a very wide range of circumstances under which you can kill someone who is on your property illegally.
The homeowner was attacked and defended himself. End of story.
Weather firearms should be registered or not is another debate. I do not believe the state has any inherent right to determine if I am armed or not. Nor do they need to know with what, when or why.
I like how they threw in the pornographic magazine being found there as well LOL. I think this is a situation where the owner, Hall, obviously wasn't trigger happy and shot to disable the perp, so he shouldn't be held accountable. However, I don't think a person should die for stealing copper.
What I don't get is the comment about the homeowner possibly being charged with having an unregistered handgun. Since when does Nebraska require gun registration?
However, I don't think a person should die for stealing copper.
If he'd died, it would have been for assaulting the armed homeowner, not stealing copper. And that was a bad decision on the dirtball's part, I'd have to say. He's fortunate to have gotten away with a bum leg. Could have ended permanently for him.
That's the kind of thing that happens when a guy takes a stupid risk.
With our legal system today one needs to shoot to kill to defend themselves or their property.
Else you'll be in court sued by "the victim" that you shot.
I just learned that Doc. Holliday of OK Corral gunfight fame was required have his gun registered with the Town of Tombstone! This gun control nightmare has been around for a long time and needs to stop.
