Speculation is not the problem. Commodities markets are a zero sum game. For every speculator that makes a buck on a long position, someone loses on a short. Unless these shorts are somehow losing money on purpose to support high oil prices, blaming futures markets is a red herring used by libs to distract an ignorant populace from the truth.
The real reason for high oil/gas prices are:
Artificial manipulation of free market supply by a multi-nation, thug run Cartel (OPEC)
Artificial manipulation of free market supply by another thug in Washington DC (EPA/Obama preventing free exploration and production in the US)
Artificially high worldwide demand for fossil fuels due to massive government subsides to consumers in countries like China, Venezuela, etc.
Artificially high gasoline prices in developed nations due to draconian, socialistic oil production & gasoline taxes.
Massive devaluation of the US Dollar.
If Obama's new investigatory commission on high gasoline prices really does do it's job, they will point the finger right back at Obama himself. Anyone want to bet this will actually happen?
I see the Lee Atwater legacy is alive and well. So, what makes you so sure to place your bets? Were you one of those associating high oil prices in 2008 with Bush?

Here we go with Bush again. Good grief, you really do need to get a life.

Oh, I hit the sensitive Bush nerve inside you. I apologize. But the least you could do is to tell us why you were blaming Bush for oil prices in 2008 which were even higher than they are right now? Or, you couldn't have, now could you? Lee Atwater was a good friend of his.
Is Obama doing everything he can to keep the cost of oil/gas down
He is doing everything the US Constitution says he should do, which is absolutely nothing.
How ironic and hypocritical that you whine and snivel like a child that Obama is a Socialist and then you want to him to engage in Stalinist like socialist behavior and control gasoline prices like the former communist States did.
The price of corn has nearly doubled in the last 6 months from $3.72 to $6.91 and your ethanol is made from corn and what, the price of ethanol doesn't increase? Sure it does, and so does the price of gasoline.
Are you doing everything you can to keep the price of gasoline down?
No, you're actually part of the problem, because you insist upon having and consuming a plethora of beverages made using high fructose corn syrup.
The best thing Obama (or anyone else) could do is shoot people like you, but I'll settle for revoking your driving privileges for the rest of your natural life.
All the people saying he should do more, aren't they the ones who want the govt. out of our lives? All those who say drill, drill...aren't they the same ones who complain govt. disaster assistance wasn't fast enough?
We have been warned for decades about our waste of energy. Now all I see are people on TV with SUV's whining about the cost of gas.
It was not Bush's fault and its not Obama's fault. It is our fault for creating a society dependent on the car.
No. He's not doing a thing. What he could do is tell everyone the TRUTH that oil is ABIOTIC (meaning it replenishes itself) and it is NOT a fossil fuel. That information alone would be enough to embarrass the oil industry into to dropping prices.
Obama is the EPITOME of the "Do as I say, not as I do" president---such a hypocrite-- if there ever was one.
