1) What reason is there to believe that would bring prices down?
Because it did in the past a few times and even under Bush this happened when it went over $5/gal
2) For those resources being extracted from public land, why should it be allowed without benefitting the public?
How would it NOT benefit the public if it lowers prices????
Well, seems this administration is getting exactly what they wanted. Higher energy prices under his liberal, anti-business agenda.
See, he seems to think if gas prices are high, people would be more inclined to buy an electric car (hopefully one HE owns - The Volt), or take public transpo, or rally for HSR, or just stop driving and conserving altogether (except he NEEDS consumers to be out there driving and spending).
So this is what his big ideas have wrought, this is what his liberal agenda has produced.
Instead of pushing for domestic sources of oil&gas, obama has crippled the industry with his illegal moratorium, at the same time he funds BILLIONS in drilling projects.....in other countries.
They want to push cars the vast majority of Americans DON'T WANT. They want to push HSR that is cost inefficient and people DON'T USE.
What an unmitigated disaster.
I would bet that you actually believe that if the President just drilled baby drilled that gas prices would be lower today.

If he stopped putting up road blocks to energy companies here in the US, the price of oil will drop because the markets will see that there is MORE supply in the already over supplied oil market. The only reason the prices are high, although there is a SURPLUS of inventory, is because the speculators think there is going to be a shortage soon. Once they see us obtaining more of our own oil, those fears will go away and the price will drop. It always works like that.
What stupid assed speculation. Oil will be sold to the highest bidder and more supply in the US won't be the only thing affecting world prices. Watch how quickly OPEC slows the flow if need be to support prices. And watch how quickly oil companies thumb their noses at the US and sell that oil to China if that brings a higher price.
exactly, why do all this right wing whiners, cry about big government when it comes to taxes and then cry that the government isn't doing everything they think it should do?
Do you want the free market to take care of itself, price controls or how about some Gerald Ford style "Whip Inflation Now" buttons?

Yes, we do happen to believe things that are true and that have happened before that we ALL witnessed with our very own eyes. See there's the difference between Liberals/Progressives and the rest. The rest actually wait until they see something in real life before they actually put stock into believing it. The Libs and Progs believe fairytales that only live inside books and college thesis papers.
