Ok, playing devil's advocate a little bit, but tell me... why is the mere idea of a single world government so terrible?
A one-world government does NOT automatically mean a totalitarian moster ruled by the anti-christ, where everyone wears white jumpsuits and submits for their daily brainwashing in front of a giant TV screen.
What if that 1 world government abolished warfare, faciliated stability, scientific development, education, trade, travel, ect and evolved humanity in a positive direction?
What if a 1 world government championed human rights, environmentally friendly development/industry, fair labor and individual property rights?
What if the 1 world government believed individual law abiding citizens of the world had the right to bear arms to protect themselves?
What if the 1 world government had checks and balances to keep any one man, former country, race or culture from acquiring too much power over the others?
What if the 1 world goverment actually believed they served the citizens of the world, not vice versa?
Would you support such a "New World Order?"
Or, is our current chimpanzee inspired "me first" free-for-all that is constantly teetering on the edge of collapse preferrable?
Nice utopia idea but it won't work in reality. Let's start off with Africa. We'd need a large security force just to try to keep the peace between various tribes and keep the Muslims from enforcing sharia law on even non-Muslims. Trying to enforce such an idea would start a world war. You think the nations ruled by royalty, hard line muslims, or dictatorships would be willing to step down, reduce their power, or stop enforcing their religious laws without a fight? Who would decide what is a human right and what nation's laws violate those rights and who would commit troops to enforcing the new rules? Would strict Muslim nations give up their laws based upon their religion? Remember, these are people willing to murder their women for some imagined insult to the family honor, execute someone for leavin Islam for another religion, or execute someone for being gay.

Are you kidding? Have you seen how screwed up the rest of the world is? The US government is bad enough, we don't need the rest of the world to help us run this country into the ditch.
At a philosophical level, you could argue that having one standard of living for everyone and laws is more demographic and fair, and if we talking about morals/philosophy rather than practicality, I would 100% agree.
Because you could say it's unfair that someone in one country gets treated under a standard of justice just based on being born in the wrong place at the wrong time (the same philosophical arguments are used against double standards in general).
But I'm sure the, feasability or practicality means that this coordination will not happen. I would like it in theory if the whole world embraces a western-style democracy with the freedoms, human rights etc. of a first world standard but it doesn't mean it'll happen.
I think it will happen if we ever encounter aliens.
Then it will be to our benefit to create some solidarity.
You assume that the "aliens" all have one-world government too. Have you ever noticed that in most sci-fi movies all of the aliens look and dress the same? When will WE get on the bandwagon and pick a "official earth" outfit?
1. American-style republic
2. Islamic theocracy
3. Communist (China, North Vietnam)
4. European socialist
5. Star Wars Empire
You only get ONE for the entire world.
What about The Federation?
