Would be victims like store owners and residents who shoot and kill or wound their assailants is a proven deterrent to criminal activity. I'm going to say your odds of being killed yourself go up by defending yourself but we have the right to make that choice and take our chances.
Yep, it's an absolute here. Extends to anywhere on your property, including your car. As a matter of fact, if there is any question at all, the law says to always err on the side of the homeowner. No criminal can sue a homeowner protecting his "castle" either because we have a law that no criminal can make any profit as a result of their crimes (this includes book deals, etc).
A good example recently of how strong our Castle Doctrine extends: A homeowner caught someone breaking into his car, the thief fled in his own car. The homeowner chased him on foot down his road and fired at the thief's fleeing car, hitting him once. The thief got home and had the audacity to call the cops on the homeowner. Cops got there and declared it Castle Doctrine and arrested the thief. Gotta love that.
Definitely gotta keep my eye on SC after graduation!
it's a lot different to actually pull the trigger and end a life. Some people can't do it.
