It is part of it.

Obama's war with small businesses is also part of it.

Many will sit on their cash until Obama is gone.

I know I will.

Consumer Spending Keeps Rising - WSJ.com

Consumer Confidence Index rises in April | Reno Gazette-Journal | rgj.com

Consumer Sentiment in U.S. Increased in April on Jobs - Bloomberg

So there is a rise in consumer spending, consumer confidence, and an increase in personal income...

Consumer confidence is below a 100 granted, but these indicators show that the average person is better off than at the height of the recession.

It will take A LONG time to come away from this collapse. Obama even stated that it will take a long time. Many economists have stated 5-10 years until the economy fully rebounds. This was the worst recession since the 1930s. This is the United State's third worst recession (the Great Depression, and the Great Panic win one and two respectively). So yeah, it's going to take a while. Considering that we aren't in full blown crisis mode, I think that the administration did a good job averting a complete meltdown of the economy (which in 2008 looked like a very likely possibility).

Gas prices are not a measure of the economy. Actually, I take that back. As demand increases, prices typically go up. So rising gas prices are also an indicator that more fuel is being consumed. Speculators are more to blame than either Republicans or Democrats.

U.S. Gas Demand Hits February Record - AutoObserver

I think that we should take all indicators as well as self reported polls to see whether or not the economy is truly moving in the right direction. Simply taking a poll asking how do you feel about the economy is not truly an objective measure. One also needs to see general trends as well (what is the majority of the population doing, what are their behaviors, etc.)

If elected, I expected him to be marginally competent. He is not.

Obama is wed to the principles of socialism and keynesian economics that prevents him from taking the appropriate action to help the economy and the nation. For him to do so would require him to abandon everything he has believed to be true for his entire life- i.e. he would have to become an economic conservative and a pragmatist. There is no way in hell he will do this, therefore he will continue to fail.

Want someone to fix the economy? Let's hire a buisnessman in 2012, rather than a community organizer. Want someone to go door to door and get people fired up? Hire Obama. A community organizer should never have been president. Any fool knew that he would fail miserably, and he has.

We are every bit as bad off as the beginning of TGD. The early 30's are a mirror of what has gone down here lately.

"We are the one's we've been waiting for!"

"This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal."

I could go on but what's the use?

His mortgage refinance program(s), failed miserably.

His obamacare, an utter disaster in and of itself, again spending TRILLIONS we don't have.

In fact, I can't think of even ONE of his policies that have succeeded or made a difference...can you?

You mean the status quo tax rate extensions he was put in a corner to sign?

And this guy wants to RAISE taxes on people.
Let's not forget the "trade your piece of junk" program that cost the taxpayers $20,000 per vehicle.

That was brilliant!

You miss the point.

He was supposed to be "different", changing the tone in DC.

He was supposed to be the one to bring peace and tranquility to the earth.

Don't even TRY to tout him as just another politician now.

Spending isn't a reliable indicator of how well the economy is doing.

The big corporations continue to send jobs out of the country, Obama has given up on his campaign pledge to create 5 million jobs, and in fact he's now trying to increase cheap labor immigration, further globalize our jobs.

There is no base for a good economy. At least when Bush was president, you could say the Cheap Labor Housing Industry was fueling the economy but the Housing Bubble burst and there's nothing else there.

Our great economy of the past was based on the Manufacturing Industry and there was the Technology Industry but we've exported those.
