Policing Tax Evasion Could Save Billions, But Republicans Won't Fund Enforcement
The GOP keeps voting providing funding for the enforcement on tax laws, that are in place now, and after words House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) admitted on Monday that the federal government is in serious need of extra revenue. Collecting money from tax cheats alone in the last decade could pay the bill for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Bush tax cuts and the 2009 stimulus combined.
Instead they continue to vote down measures like funding the IRS an additional $340 million in 2012, with nearly $300 billion in estimated tax losses a year. The ROI is nearly 4 figures, compared to saving a couple million by de-funding Focus on the Family.
Why the hell would people whine about the deficit, then simply refuse to collect what is already owed?
