One of my sisters just can't find a job. She has been unemployed now for over 2 1/2 years and has applied at countless places but just can not get hired? (Part of her problem is few people want to hire someone who has been out of work for so long without references and is over 350 pounds).

Now that her unemployment insurance has ended she has ZERO INCOME and no money in the bank. She lives with another sister who wants her out but does not have the backbone to kick her out and send her to the homeless shelter.

Should Government give someone like this cash welfare and or food stamps. She can work but can not find a job and has no children or husband.

What's the alternative? Should she be without any money and no food? Ideally, she could live with relatives until she get's on her feet. Still though, she's an American, so YES....she should be given something. I'm assuming that she was a taxpaying American when she was working!

Besides, we're feeding Afghanis, aren't we? Why shouldn't we feed an American citizen?

The numbers of people in your sister's situation will continue to grow - and most of them are of normal weight. This entrenched unemployment is a function of the retraction in our economy, outsourcing and technology. This will not go away anytime soon. The Great Recession brought on by the Wall Street crooks - who are now richer than ever - has created a permanent underclass, some of whom will never dig their way out of this.

Living with your sister might prevent your unemployed sister from obtaining food stamps, because household income is considered when qualifying, I believe.

No, i think she can still collect if she is not employed and she files income taxes as a single person.

Individuals would not need food stamps if they could simply bear true witness to our Ninth Amendment, a federal doctrine, and State at-will employment laws, as a civil moral and ethic.

What objection can there be to being able to apply for unemployment whenever a person can claim to be unemployed? We could be lowering the cost of government via that market friendly means using existing infrastructure and existing laws. We could solve official poverty in the process and end our exorbitantly expensive, War on Poverty.

Everyone who collects government benefits should be obligated to volunteer their time to community service in return for the government benefits.

Really? So if you receive farm subsidies, should those farmers march down to their town halls and do some community service?

Amen, brien51. The president the lefties adore FDR offered handups, not handouts. This should not be in addition to public employees who say, clean parks, but this labor should be used to reduce the overtime rates of non-exempt gov't employees, so as to be of true benefit to the cost structure of gov't..hence those of us footing the bills.

NO. It is obvious she is simply not trying hard enough to get work. Has she moved to where the jobs are? Obviously not. Also if she is that heavy she needs a starvation diet to become more employable. Why should we taxpayers support such a blatantly lazy slob?

I have read countless posts by the greed is great crowd spouting this blather so I thought I would present the other half’s suggestions and save them the trouble.
