The state budget proposal trims $800 million from MassHealth, the state's Medicaid program, and cuts $65 million in state aid to cities and towns. The plan also withdraws $200 million from the state's rainy day fund in an effort to close an estimated $1.9 billion spending gap for the fiscal year that begins July 1.

There are no tax increases in the plan, which was approved on a 157-1 vote. The most contentious part of the debate focused on an amendment to dramatically strengthen the power of cities and towns to change public employee health plans. Unions opposed it, saying it strips away key collective bargaining rights.

Weren't Democrats supposed to be in favor of collective bargaining rights? Well, maybe not. The Democratic-controlled Statehouse in Massachusetts voted earlier this week to strip public employee unions of their collective bargaining rights, as part of the state's budget measure. It passed by a vote of 157 to 1.

"These are the same Democrats that all these labor unions elected," Massachusetts AFL-CIO president Robert J. Haynes said in a media advisory. "The same Democrats who we contributed to in their campaigns. The same Democrats who tell us over and over again that they’re with us, that they believe in collective bargaining, that they believe in unions."

Can't say I'm all broke up about it.

I guess we'll see if this gets the same "outrage" treatment by the media and liberals here as the Republicans in Wisconsin did.

Quite remarkable. Just how bad were the protests? Were there any protests? How bout a snide remark? Maybe a cross look?

I posted a thread on this a couple of days ago. It died from lack of participation from the far left posters. Good to see the subject brought up again. We'll see if you get more responses.

That was the whole the point. I wouldn't count on the "Do as I say, not as I do" Liberals flinching.

Smoke up everybody. I guess the unions will have to launder more drug money to bribe the Democrats.

I'm guessing the paid protesters the Democrats bus around from State to State are on sabbatical.

It is interesting that when other red states take away bargaining rights you see threads with pages and pages of posts. When their own people wake up and realize that they can not continue to be financially raped and take a stand against the unions those same threads sound like crickets chirping.

This is just the beginning of the end and it's going to be a quick end..

What I want to know is who they are going to try and buy in the next election. No politician is going to stand up to justify the continued raping and pillaging that is happen now..

I would like to see Alaska take a stand as well.. a mechanic making 144K a year.. yeah... that's your tax dollars at work for you bud!

Can we both agree that it is politically expedient to go after the "taxpayer" than demand, or even urge the "elite" to pay, or even contribute to shared sacrifice?

Having said that, the President urged a federal wage freeze back in November of 2010, which set off this reaction. Which was stupid, cause we're now seeing the uncreative solutions to govern municipalities by way of slashing everything if though the governance process were bankrupt of ideas.

At the heart of the problem lies the Republicans' unilateral support for those who basically crippled the economy only to demand, unequivocally, that everyone else pick up the tab. Some "patriotism" there. True to Ayn Rand principles....

FYI -- there is "protest" from the "brownshirt union thugs" on the matter in Massachusetts......
