I wouldn't matter how he handled it. The same people would always complain, just as Bush had his never satisfied set of complainers.
Basically, there is a subset of people that are convinced Obama is an untrustowrthy secret Muslim socialist who makes bad decisions because he is an inexperienced leader bent on destroying the country. His every action will be bent to fit that narrative.
Just like, for 8 years, there were people who were convinced George Bush was a corrupt corporate-shilling moron who was mind controlled by evil neocons, particularly by his VP Cheney. Everything he did was read though that lens.
But the people who do this will never see themselves in each other, and will remain convinced they are totally justified while the other guys were hateful nutcases and idiots.
The Left will NEVER get it. Why should they? They don't believe in following the rule of law, so why should they believe in evidence?
