But of course we will bite when attacked. We do not want to repeat what western europoe failed to do with Hitler early on when he could have easily beeen defeat and istead ended up a world war with millions of deaths. But I guess the Op thinks the world is very peaceful except for US. Barnum was right.
I don't say that the world is peaceful except for the US. (although America spends more on military than any other country: 667.7 BILLION. No. 2: Britian: 59.6 BILLION.)

So America is apparently "no. 1" in more ways than one. Indeed, if the US spent less money on military, and more on, let's say, "education" and "housing," then we might be on the road to improvement.

The point of the thread, is that there are many countries that have been or still are "war zones." War is not pretty, and until America suffers a war on it's own territory, we can expect the drunken imperialist "do whatever we want, kill whomever is necessary" attitude to continue.

Question: Al Queda is responsible for the deaths of 3,000 Americans. But America is now responsible for the deaths of 14,000-34,000 Afghans.
Who then has committed the most atrocities?

Peace,
brian

Some extreme naivety in threads like these. Look the world is a sick sick place run by power hungry greedy individuals. America's been under the grip of plutocracy and the powergrip of international finance ever since its inception. It's pretty simple actually but Americans and many others fail miserably to admit or even understand the basic tenets of American serfdom and state corporatism/fascism. We have a "money trust" we can call them. Bankers, wallstreet financiers, corporate elites that control the Pentagon and the CIA. These entities in turn control the US government. Together this trifecta has been waging war, toppling governments and plundering and pillaging countries for the past 60 years. It's not the petro dollar, it's not our debt based monetary system and it sure as hell isn't American democracy, innovation, moral high ground or any of that crap that gives our country and our government it's power. It's the fact that we were the first country to drop the bomb and we have nuclear weapons. The US military is nothing more than a front for corporations. Extraction industries, big agriculture, high finance etc. They no longer protect the US constitution and no longer represent or fight for democracy. They are basically hired thugs that go around the world toppling regimes in the name of money, profits and pseudocapitalism.

The US government is one big revolving door for this entire racket. You've got politicians and corporate hacks in bed with each other feeding off their mutual corruption and self interests. And then we have the worked to death, sterssed out, barely making it US middle class propping up this entire fabricated lie. This artificial belief system that America is a free and prosperous country. Hah.....we hide behind our consumption and materialism as if that means real freedom. They call it the American dream because you gotta be asleep to believe in it.

Yes. And I've noticed that the American military budget is 667 billion annually. No. 2 is Britian, at only 60 billion. (And of course, Afghanistan doesn't even "have" a military budget!)
The world spends nothing compared to what the US spends. It's like everyone in one neighborhood, each one has a gun, more or less expensive; and then there's the US, with tanks, nuclear bombs and armored walls!!

It just doesn't make any sense at all. It's just plain madness!

What's more, Al Queda was able to destroy the heart of NYC with box-cutter knives, but America spent 10 years and billions of dollars to "get their man."

??????

Peace,
brian

These a#$holes are going to take the USA to another war in Libya and Syria just watch. It's happening. Look at the news coverage lately. Odumbo's BC, now Bin Laden's dead............instead of seeing what's going on in Libya we can see 6 part specials on Navy SEAL training and elaborate maps of Osama's compound in Pakistan and how it was "carried out". The disaster in Japan doesn't even receive a blip anymore. But what do you expect when the average Americans attention span is only a few seconds?

But you know what's funny..........go into an Apple Ipod store and the places are cracked pack with so many people you can't even walk. American land of the zombie shoppers! Our country is literally imploding and we are asleep at the wheel.......about ready to crash into a tree.

America is a very young country. It certainly has some things in its favor, such as low-scale beaucracy, a wealth of resources, land, etc.

But there is a lot of pride in America. And pride is not a good thing. Many people believe that America has the right to govern the world, and they actually believe that other countries want to be like them. Yet they have never been to those countries, they do not know what those other countries value.

Consumerism, greed and the military machine are wrecking havoc all over the globe. The dollar profit is the bottom line, and it's sink-or-swim for everyone, with no mercy whatsoever.

The amount of military spending in the US is more than astounding. It's alarming. Something is wrong. And although I understand the "satisfaction" of those who say that a terrorist has been eliminated, I have to wonder: Bin Laden was responsible for 3,000 civilian deaths. But the US is responsible for 14,000-34,000 civilian deaths in Afghanistan.

So who is committing the most terrorism???

Our "Christian government" is lacking Christ, the Prince of Peace.

Blessings,
brian

Well, Obama has managed to get more US soldiers killed in Afghanistan in just 2 years than Bush did in all 8 prior years combined. Considering the utter contempt liberal freaks have to the military, you can be certain they consider that as "progress."

War in Afghanistan (2001

If the numbers are wrong, anyone with more reliable, verifiable data can make changes.
Due to the confusional nature of war, I tend to think if there is a mistake, that the numbers are higher, not lower. Deaths can easily be neglected or ignored in the counting.

The biggest problem is our financial industry and far too much of our manufacturing is addicted to debt financed military spending. If we stopped either borrowing for or building for war our economy would completely collapse. We, like any addict, need continuously higher doses of war to keep the collapse away. I believe we will ultimately be destroyed by our final over dose of WAR.
