Really? Come visit me. I was at Vine and 13th walking back from Kroger's in freaking broad day-light and a guy got shot and killed just a few hundred feet from me. 2 days ago a guy was shot in the head (he was holding a 3-year old infant) 3 blocks away, and 2 days before that another was two blocks up the road. I can't even walk the 4 blocks to Kroger's without having 1-3 wogs offering to sell me drugs.

In a just world I'd be able to shoot them where they stand.

Hypocrisy or irony?
Actually, though you are deflecting from the thread topic, the condemnation is because the rapper's lyrics proclaim 2 convicted cop-killers as being innocent. But, don't let the truth get in your way.

The day there's a police station on every corner, I'd really think I'd need a gun more than ever.

The line cited in the thread contains this line which angers so many right wingers

Quote:
“Tell the law my Uzi weighs a ton … I hold up a peace sign but I carry a gun,†raps Common in one appearance that was posted onto YouTube.

none of the above... how many rappers rap about their need to carry guns and how many posts have been made here condemning the aforementioned rappers?

Better yet, lets look at violent crime statistics from the seventies...

Let see... climbing, climbing, climbing until... 1991

Here's some highlights (per 100,000)

Violent crime peak rate... 1991 with 758 crimes
Murder peak rate... 1991 with 9.8 murders
Property crime rate peak... 1991 with 5,140

2009 rates (per 100,000)
Violent crime 429
Murder 5.4
Property 3,036

Now lets look at states instituting concealed carry...

Interesting that before 1990 the number of Shall issue states was quite small, and since then they've expanded to almost universal...

Hey but don't take my word for it... How are those places with no issue doing with those very crimes that seem to have declined since the increase in concealed carry...?

Chicago 2007 murder rate 15.6/100,000
DC 2009 murder rate 23.8/100,000
New York murder rate 6.3/100,000

All are above the national average... but I must admit that New York is quite a bit lower than I'd expected.

I lived for more than 60 years in a state (NJ) with more drugs and criminals than you can imagine and never once was I afraid enough that I thought it was necessary to carry a gun.

Home security is another story but out on the street or in a restaurant just what are the gun carrying people afraid of?
I'll be honest I now live in a state(NC) where everybody has a gun and I am more concerned for my safety than I ever was when only the bad guys had guns.

Could somebody please explain the paranoia?

Don't give me that 2nd amendment crap, I know it's legal but why the need?
That is a choice you have, like killing your unborn child, committing adultery, watching porn , believing in God. It is a freedom and you choose if you want to exercise that freedom............and you take your chances. Your state has given you the right to carry, and you don't want to. Is that the problem?

I don't go anywhere that I feel the need to carry
a gun, although there is probably one in the car.

I think that first sentence sums it up. I have to defend myself from the entire NRA. Never know when these looney gun nuts they have clinging to their apron strings are going to let loose.

I don't ever plan to get into a car accident but I still wear my seat belt. Is that paranoia?

I don't intend to die tomorrow but I still carry life insurance. Is that paranoia?

I don't intend to be burgled but I still lock my doors and arm my alarm. Is that paranoia?

It's not for when yo don't need it. It's for when you do, even if you hope you never do.
