Actually, no, most people don't understand how torture works.

Most people think the actual torture is what leads to the interrogated talking.

That's not the case at all.

It's the period after they were "tortured" where the "good cop" comes in and the "tortured" starts spilling their beans like there is no tomorrow to their new last best hope to get out of their or save their asses.

So, torture didn't cause any confessions. It was the cuddle time after words (and water, electricity, sleep deprivation...).

We know that torture works to break the will. If anyone is trying to say it brings truth they are wrong. Note the excepts a few posts back. The "infomation" from those who were waterboarded was false, because torture simply makes the victum want to make it stop. Truth isn't necessary or often even possible.
