Still too much like the crazy uncle for my liking, speaking as a registered independent.

If there is anyone, ANYONE, in America who doesn't seem crazy, it is Ron Paul.

would I consider voting for him? Yes, if he got the nomination but it is unlikely that will happen.

Off topic, but why do people think being independent or moderate puts them above the fray into some faux-intellectual stratosphere of level headedness where no one can possibly question their opinions

Then as a registered Republican you need to push the GOP to pick him, they pick anyone else, including your guy Perry, and Obama wins by a landslide.

Argumentum Ad Verecundiam or Argument From Authority.
It's a type of non sequitur (kinda sorta) wherein no falsifiable data is presented but one is expected to accept a conclusion based entirely on someone's credentials.

Why? Though a fallacy, it usually works. By usually, I mean almost every single time.

I use it all the time knowing full well it's BS. But, as they say, "If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, Baffle 'em with BS." Generally speaking folks are taught to show some bit of courtesy and will tend NOT to challenge claims of authority. We are taught from birth to show respect for others whether they have earned it or not. In short it's a cheenk ( poor spelling due to the PC police) in our armor that most of us tend to exploit whether we are even aware of it or not.

Even though the preceding diatribe is simply an expression of my opinion, I suggest strongly you accept it as fact since I too am a registered independent!

There are also other theories that explore manic depressive illusions of grandeur but that's a whole nuther can o' worms.

You're asking the wrong question. Why do we have an income tax?

So people like Bachmann can have a job?

It is a low stress jobs. I cannot say much about Bush Sr and Clinton, but GW went on vacation half of the time. Of course Obama top GW. He is on vacation half of the time and spend extra time with his union buddies.

Then come out and say I have a job plan, and I will put it in action when we are back from vacation in September. Gee.... Thanks Mr. President.

I think many Democrats would be more likely to vote for Ron Paul than a lot of Republicans. He's not socially conservative enough for most of the GOP. He's marginalized within his own party, unfortunately.
