Sorry that's not a ringing endoresment. Reagan may have been suffering from Alzheimers at least for part of his presidency. At the very least his was at times very disengaged. How the hell does something like Iran-Contra happen and the President not know about it?
Also this is different country that it was 30 years ago. Ron Pauls age, lack of foreign policy experience and inability to every win at least a statewide election on top of his age all work against him.
Do we really want to worry about an old guy croaking on us in White House with all the problems we have?
Yeah because the Independent Party has an awesome track record when it comes to winning presidential elections.
Paul is never going to win the Republican nomination anyway. The fix is in.
There are many of us, from both sides of the political spectrum, who would like a choice other than the same old BS we get from the two major parties.
Would Paul win the general election?..Almost assuredly not. However, if he were to add a popular liberal, like Kucinich as his VP candidate, an awful lot of votes could be picked up.
A message needs to be sent..that message being..we're tired of the drug war, tired of foreign wars, tired of infringement upon our civil liberties, etc.
Neither the Democrats or Republicans offer any relief in those areas, they are just two peas in a pod..it's time for a real option to the status quo..
I saw him interviewed by Chris Matthews yesterday......I cant believe that he actually believes "property rights" trump civil rights .... such as accomodations in resturants and hotels. He said all the segregation practices are history......and no sane business man would ever segregate his store or resturant or bar.....that there is no need for government to get involved! He believes that in Texas, Alabama, Mississippi.....no one is crazy enough to segregate or put up the White only signs.
No I wouldnt even consider voting for Ron Paul.....just as I wouldnt have voted for Lester Maddox .... or George Wallace or any other person who preached or enabled racism. (I dont think Paul is a racist.....he just doesnt think equal rights are as important as his version of freedom).

If I could vote I'd vote for Paul or maybe Daniels (if he runs).
Paul will have a tough time. He's not enough of a jingoistic spender who loves big government, nor is he enough of a social conservative to want to impose his own beliefs nationwide (see his stance on abortion for example), so that makes it hard to get the far-right vote. He's not enough of a socialist who wants to take more of hard-working people's money and give it to those who don't deserve it, so it'll be tough to get the far-left vote.
Indeed, it seems that more and more you've gotta be an extremist on either side to have a chance. Here's hoping I'm wrong.
He was interviewed on CNN yesterday, and he stated he's anti-abortion and wants to repeal Roe v. Wade. Have you heard a different stance from him?
Ron Paul will be 76 years old in a few months. Would people actually vote for someone going into the White House at that age? It's not like it's a "low stress" job.
It just means who he picks for Vice President carries more weight than a younger president. It's not so much his age that's his issue, but whether his vice presidential nominee is capable of handling the presidency in the unfortunate event he has health problems while in office. Hence why McCain shot himself in the foot. He probably would have been a decent president, even if I disagree with him on several issues. But with his age and health, it meant too high a likelihood that Palin would become president.
