Seems Iranian courts have postponed or even called off her legal revenge, maybe because of the protests by international human rights groups...
Justice delayed is justice denied. There are also those calling for the man to be pardoned. Even sedating him while the sentence is carried out is a miscarriage as his victim had no such compassion shown. I hope this proceeds soon.
I believe there should always be some kind of accountability for one's actions but the literal "eye for an eye", as applied in this case, is not the sort of justice I would advocate. A more appropriate kind of justice would be monetary damages and for him to have to support her for the rest of her life.
That she showed compassion to him shows a kind of spiritual evolution that is rare anywhere in the world.
I was wondering about that as I read an article today which described how an Iranian woman (Amene Bahrami), who had been blinded by a student in an acid attack a couple of years ago, will be legally allowed to blind that man in return tomorrow, also by means of acid dropped into his eyes. The courts have asked her to forgive him and not to do it, but she is determined to make use of her right.
An eye for an eye, quite literally...
Really a tough decision
What kinds of crimes is such an attitude and punishment inadequate for?
It is ridiculous to think 2 wrongs make a right. I wonder how many people responding to this by saying it is the wrong thing to do are for the death penalty?
The individuals eyesight is their property. No one should have the right to take anothers property.
