As somebody who has firsthand experience with this process, designer clothes and iPhones do not count as assets, and one car is usually exempt too (no matter what the value), at least in Minnesota.

Well, considering that you can buy designer clothes in thrift stores for very little money, and having and iPhone usually means you're tied into a contract ... yeah, doesn't make sense to count them as assets.
