A pregnancy drug that was being produced by several companies had cost $10 a week.
The federal government gets involved and grants only one hand picked company to make it and they told the others to pound sand, or face fines and jail if they produce it.
That drug now cost from $1000-$1500 a week now.
Charles Paine was just on Varney & Co. talking about it.
No link out just yet.
I'll have it when it is posted, or I'm sure my fellow C-D'ers will, that are better than I at finding stuff, will help me out.
Reminds me of defense procurement and acquisitions. Companies know that when the government is paying for it they are able to jack up prices. There is no emotional rationalization to spending taxpayer dollars. So if XYZ is normally $20,000 dollars, it somehow becomes $30,000 when the government's paying the tab. I see it everyday. Taxpayers would croak if they had any idea how much they pay for even relatively menial items here in Iraq.
I have a hunch that's what's happening here. As soon as a single supplier was selected, the company had free reign to jack up prices without any repercussions.
And your justification for this statement? The only thing I'm reading here is FDA approval.
Hmm. Since when does a person have to 'justify' a blanket statement on this board? I believe it is de rigueur on this board that, whenever a new thread begins, you quickly cast aspersions on your political foes, regardless of the content of the original posting.

Well of course! After all, we didn't see them using more government to interfere with those lucrative no-bid contracts in Iraq now, did we?
