In that exact situation, I think it would have been fine to keep it. Not only is the homeowner dead, but he bought the house and everything in it. It doesn't matter if it's bad plumbing or an ammo can stuffed with cash - he owns it. Of course, giving it away is fine, too, if he wants to do that, but I wouldn't have thought any less of the man if he'd kept the money.

In most other situations, though, returning it would be the right thing to do.
