yes because look how the apollo missions had the world watching in awe as history was made.
it also was amazing in the fact that if americans want to do something that would be one of the hardest things to do. which, is land pepole on the moon and get them back alive but if work together on it we can.
You asked the question and gave the answer at the same time.
We have to expand beyond this planet. Even if we don't destroy it, the population will outgrow it. We simply won't have the natural resources to survive.

the space program will crash along with every thing else, if we don't start changing our ways..
I belive the Vasimr engine is scheduled to be installed on the International Space Station during or before 2013 for testing in space they alredy have it working here on earth.
just watching us launch a shuttle is still pretty amazing that we can build some pretty amazing things and the earth is one good looking planet I must say but then again that is our home and sure makes you think that we are capable of so much more it just depends are we willing to try
