Both programs should have the age of eligibility gradually raised. For Medicare, seniors should pay slightly more for co-pays and premiums. Those small tweaks now will greatly improve the finances of those two important and popular programs.
Why should middle and lower classes pay more for healthcare when the taxes on the wealthy could be raised slightly and the military budget cut slightly to balance the budget?

The point is. There is no need to cut those programs to balance the budget.
Another point not intended for you personally.
For those that are sooo sad, and crying about how mean the USA is to it's rich people....please go here and look what rich people normally were taxed at in the past.
Hell no. Absolutely cut politicians pay before anything else. Stop sending money to all these different Countries for this and that, it never stops, take care of our own before all others. We should matter first before any other Country. And the needs of Americans should be first and foremost.

Social Security doesn't add to the deficit yet, but Medicare/Medicaid does already and would only get worse. We need to do what I said and have the rich pay more and cut military spending.
People should have an option to opt out of these programs and not have their taxes deducted to fund these programs. For the money that is taken out of our paycheckes we could do a much better job of investing it and see a better return. If we were allowed to put some of that return into medical savings accounts (tax free) we would do far better than those people on medicare.
