FBI recovers stolen Ferrari but crashes it and refuses to pay the cost to repair (legal, drug)

The owner is suing the US Justice Department because the FBI refuses to pay the estimate $750,000 in damages to the vehicle.

“Just a few seconds after we left the parking lot, we went around a curve and the rear of the car began sliding,” Thompson said in an email to Motors Insurance Company. “The agent tried to regain control but the car fishtailed and slid sideways up onto the curb. The vehicle came to rest against a row of bushes and a small tree.”

The US government has denied any need to pay for the crash, saying they are not legally responsible for stolen goods when they are in the hands of law enforcement.

The Justice Department however has also been unwilling to release any documents regarding the incident, leading many to question why there is such a lack of transparency on the matter.

I think the reports need to come out. It could have been that the agent's unfamiliarity with driving that caliber of vehicle caused the accident, or it could be that he was showing off, or both.

I remember when that car was stolen and was on the news. We wondered why they were so lax in letting somebody just test drive it alone as well as not having a GPS locator in it. We assumed it was a professional heist and it was destined for a foreign country.
So the FBI agents got a little crazy and drove too fast. Just make their insurance pay and let them cover whatever it doesn't.

First, the agent should be fired. Second, the Asst. US AG should be reprimanded and disciplined severely. Third, the FBI should have the $750,000.00 come out of their budget.
