Sunday in Washington, D.C. means Rolling Thunder, and 100,000 motorcycling veterans – In the Arena - CNN.com Blogs

Answering today’s OFF-SET questions is Gary Scheffmeyer, President of Rolling Thunder, Inc., the non-profit organization with more than 90 chapters throughout the U.S. and abroad that brings together veterans and motorcycle riders.

She’s not scheduled to speak as of yet. But she and her husband will come to the Pentagon a motorcycle, and they will participate in the demonstration.
Rolling Thunder Riders Praise Sarah Palin's Participation in Rally - The Note

Quote:
ABC News' Sheila Marikar [@sheilaym] reports: For the riders of Rolling Thunder, the news that Sarah Palin will participate in their national rally on Sunday came as a surprise. A welcome surprise.

“I think that’s wonderful,” said Gerri Tramel, president of one of Rolling Thunder’s Tennessee chapters. “Anybody that’s involved -- Republican, Democrat, independent, whatever -- if you’re involved with our veterans, I think that’s wonderful.
The poor Left.

Don't feel bad for us, Sanrene-we're having a blast!

The point is not that some of the Rolling Thunder riders like Palin- Im sure a lot of them do. It's the fact she cynically hi-jacked their event in order to bask in the reflected glory for reasons of self-agrandisement.
Here is a section from the original article in the National Journal, cited in my OP. It paints a different picture:

[Spokesperson] Regg said that Palin was invited to the event, but Ted Shpak, a director for Rolling Thunder, suggested otherwise: “She wasn’t invited,” he told MSNBC on Friday. “We heard yesterday that she came out with a press release saying she was coming to Rolling Thunder.”
Shpak verbalized what Regg declined to, calling Palin’s involvement “a big distraction, because my phone has been ringing off the hook ever since she announced that.
“This is not a political event,” he continued. “Maybe she’s coming because she knows we have half a million people in town, and she’s thinking she can start her [campaign] … but we’re not endorsing anybody. She’s not speaking on our stage during our program. We’re taking care of our issues and that’s why we’re here.”

Doesn't sound like the Director's too thrilled to have her there.

Can you see the campaign add? Sarah ridin' a hawg through a sea of American flags, past 500,000 adoring fans? Except of course theyre not there for Palin- they are there to honor their dead and missing. But that doesn't matter to Palin, does it? It's ALL about her...

Director Shpak can see it. Sounds like it makes him a little sick to his stomach.

If that is all she is doing, fine. But, this is Sarah P we are talking about. Could be some organizers of this may not like it if she tries to use the event for her self aggrandizement.

OK, let's make a deal?

Want Palin threads to disappear?

Tell your fellow repugs that under no circumstance, no news about Palin, nothing she says, nothing she does, nothing she quits, nothing she runs for...will EVER induce a Repug to start a thread about her.......

Then, I will never start a thread about her....OK?
