I'm trying to imagine Bibi's reaction if we told him Americans wrote a book saying Americans are God's 'chosen' people and therefore America is infallible and should have carte blanche to actas we choose.

If President Obama needed the "story" to help his public opinion ratings, Netanyahu might have done that. Obama allowed Netanyahu to misrepresent what he said, to help Bibi at home. That's what is was all about, political rhetoric to dupe the easily duped.
Most Obama supporters have no clue what you're talking about so don't expect much of an answer.
The reason that Obama supports have no clue is because Obama supporters, real conservatives and sane Republicans - at least the ones that still exist - understand that the logical fallacy of false analogies, and I can't think of a more illogical fallacy than trying to equate granting statehood to Hawaii and Alaska with the territories occupied by Israel since 1967.
Calling for Israel to return to its 1967 borders have been U.S. policy ever since the passage UN Resolution 242 in November of 1967. A resolution supported by every administration without interruption. This includes without exception, Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton, Bush 43 and now Obama. It is amazing that reactionaries have no clue that this has been U.S. policy for 44 years.
