Because just like the bunch of morons who build in Colorado, there are natural disasters everywhere and we as a country would step up to help the morons of CO after a huge snow/ice storm or forest fire even though they knew that happened before they built there.

So you support government interference in and manipulation of the markets to use billions of tax dollars promoting certain industries at the expense of others?

Some of us still believe in the power of the free market. Sad how far liberal Socialists like 01Snake have taken our country off the deep end.

I just really hope that the people of Joplin (and Alabama) have better luck in their rebuilding effort than the victims of Katrina. We can spat all we like, but I say: God Bless The Red Cross.

why not cut welfare

or the costly medicaid

or better yet, why does a sitting president need to have billions for a re-election campaign(that he is a shoe-win on anyhow)..there is the money right there

Are you truly suggesting that Obama gets billions of taxpayer dollars for his campaign?!? Why do people have such strong opinions about topics they know nothing about?

First of all, it's only 1 billion he's looking to raise, not "billions". Secondly, it's private funding.

We'll probably bail out the banks and the insurance companies who have suffered losses from the tornado. I'm not sure if individual home owners and small businesses qualify for a helping hand. But then again, an election is coming up.....

Thank you because if we all choose to live somewhere devoid of "natural disasters" we would all be living on the Moon! Why do people live in California knowing there are EarthQuakes or even coastal states subject to Hurricanes?

I'll gladly agree to start cutting social programs as soon as we stop funding foreign wars. I'll fight head over heals before we lose any such programs while funding Iraq/Afghanistan/Libya! Make a fuss over the military spending before cutting benefits for citizens to fund disaster relief. Do that or pay higher taxes. The end.

So you would rather cut aid to poor people, rather than cutting tax breaks and subsidies to oil corporations?
