There goes their economy. This is a pipe dream, wind, solar and hydro will not pick up the slack left over from ending Nuke power. Merkel is as gullible as they come, she needs to take a look at Spain to see where this will go. They think this is going to take place in 11 years? LMAO! Bye, bye German economy!
Germany has been an economic powerhouse for the last 150 years. It caused two world wars. Contrast that with a country 5 times as big as Germany, with 10 times as many natural resources and one who never experienced the misfortune of fighting a world war on their own soil in the last 100 years....................LMAO! They also don't have a porous southern border spilling over with poor, illiterate, undecuated illegal immigrants sucking off their national economy while having anchor babies.
Bad idea. The energy efficiency from renewables is nearly 1/4 - 1/5 the efficiency of nuclear power. I am all about a diversified portfolio for energy, but abandoning a highly productive and relatively safe (yes it is very safe in the scheme of things - consider the heightened illnesses from coal-power and destruction caused by hydro) form of energy for less-efficient ones just isn't smart.
What other sources? Sources that don't produce hardly anything like solar and wind? Do they have enough places to build dams for hydro? Where's the enviro crowd on that one? This is a pipe dream to have done in 11 years. The technology has to be invented first, that will take 11 years or more. I'm all for a new technology, but a reliable one doesn't exist yet.

And you'd have facts to back up your claims? However, if you're for diversified portfolio for energy, Germany wouldn't be a country you should dismiss. Despite of being a land with not so sunny skies, it has invested in and is reaping the benefits of solar power, and pushing for hydro. Germans, not being ideologues, will likely jump back into the nuclear world if the challenges with nuclear power are taken care of. Perhaps, with fusion.

Germany doesn't have to build dams. It can use existing dams, as it is planning and working towards... in Norway. Despite of being oil rich, Norway isn't stupid enough to burn it all either, instead has focused on hydro power. In case of Germany, among many options, solar is big. The problem with solar is that the energy generated during the day needs to be stored to be used later. And Norway's dams are going to be used as massive batteries. Germany sends Norway its surplus energy (mostly solar), the energy is stored as water up the reservoir in Norway and later used to generate electricity, which Germany gets back.
Ok this is nice.. can we get our troops out of germany now and close down our bases it appears the germanys are ready to take on their own defenses again. :-)
