Maybe those cams are cheaper in the long run than having humans monitor streets and crossroads. The thing with speed limits, like with any other regulation, is, someone has to check whether or not they are observed. A speed limit alone, without any control, is kind of superfluous.
Is that the kind of camera that can read your licence plate? Some people hate those as they allow tracking.
It's not a question of cheaper, red light cameras are a HUGE money maker for the governments and the private companies who install them. A city out here recently installed a couple of them and admitted that safety and accident rates didn't play a part in installing the cameras. It's a cash cow, period.
My hometown has installed red light cameras everywhere. Not only do they check to see if you ran a red light (or yellow, or barely cross the line by a foot), but they also check your speed while going through the camera.
That's awesome. They should install radar-photo devices as well, and I would like to see cameras at cross walks to nail people who are talking/texting.

I can't wait until they are in our homes under the same pretext of protecting us
They can be interpreted either way, really. Some people interpret all laws as threats to their freedom. These people are called anarchists.
In this case, they would be correct. The vast majority of the people have absolutely no clue that they have the constitutionally protected right "to be confronted with the witnesses against" them under the Sixth Amendment. One cannot confront a device, therefore it is a threat to our freedom to use a device an attempt to enforce any law.
I realize that many do not give a damn about our constitutionally protected rights (particularly the fascist liberal freaks), but some of us still do.
Whether we like them or not? they are there for a reason, if people knew how to friggin drive, maybe they would not have to be there. But unfortunately too many drunk drivers, people driving while texting, have killed many innocent drivers.
I do not mind them, if you follow the laws while driving, why would you care. Those street light cameras have caught people who have ran red lights, and have killed innocent children while crossing the street. Without those cameras, they would never have the proof that was needed.
Sorry but too many drivers today, thruout each State have people that don't follow the laws while driving. Why don't you people who text while driving, just stop it.

You want to know whats sad? Most of the people that support these things are Republicans that I've found. Usually the neo-cons. Most Republicans and liberals are against these cameras, but there is about 30% of the country that support them.
Wow. We've reached a point where people are OK with government monitoring and dictating their every move.
The Crown is pleased.
How's a red light camera dictating where you go? LOL..Easy on the tin foil.

What freedom does a red light camera make you sacrafice besides the freedom to run a red light?
