Its the same thing with Obama If I believed he is a black nationalist christian like Rev. Wright...I WOULD NOT VOTE FOR HIM!
...
Rev. Wright is not a Black Nationalist Christian. Rev. Wright never advocated separation from Europeans. In fact, he was the pastor of the largest congregation in the a predominately white (95%+) denomination.
Not being American I found this head scratching, this bloke seems to be saying because the president of the USA is a Mormon we in other countries would rush Mormon missionaries to join the LDS church.
Interesting argument, we heathens would give up living in sin with a woman who is not our wife, we would give up tobacco, single malt whiskey and we do not even get seventy two virgins
Oh, but we would get a lot of prayer in place of the above,
Nope, cannot see that happening.
I do find it strange that the religion of a politician has any bearing on his ability.
Question, would a politician being Jewish make a difference to his chances in the USA in running for president ?
Religion reflects someone's values. If I know someone is an Evangelical Christian or a Mormon, I know how they will vote on controversial social issues and that is something all of us take into account. You know what type of people they will nominate for Supreme Court justices. You know they will vote on gay marriage, abortion, stem cell research etc. Religion is a great indicator on how someone would vote on issues as it was certainly true with George W Bush. Most intependents and moderates do not prefer candidates that are on one extreme end of the religious spectrum.
Romney will have a difficult time beating Obama because he is Mormon because he will be seen as a socially conservative candidate and a lot of Independents stay away from that. However, that being said, Romney is one of the more moderate candidates when compared to Bachman and the others.
Mmmmm.....Presidents don't vote. They either sign a bill or they veto it.
So we are all fine if Romney's father came here illegally from Mexico as long as his name isn't Lopez?
Mitt Romney's father---George W. Romney, once my governor---was born to American parents in the Mormon colonies in Mexico. He didn't come to this country illegally. He was even a Republican nomination for president back in 1968. As for the OP question, I don't think Mitt's religion is a plus or a minus for him.
I don't agree with Mitt Romney's politics, but the media has essentially used his religion to marginalize him. How many news stories did you see about Mitt Romney in the last election that didn't mention that he was a Mormon?
I thing that we should have a debate over governance, rather than to judge people based on their religion.
