Obamacare does not do anything except drive up the cost of healthcare. It does not address the fundamental issue of ever increasing private healthcare costs.
"Single-payer is a term used to describe a type of financing system. It refers to one entity acting as administrator, or “payer.” In the case of healthcare, a single-payer system would be setup such that one entity—a government run organization—would collect all healthcare fees, and pay out all healthcare costs.
In the current US system, there are literally tens of thousands of different healthcare organizations—HMOs, billing agencies, etc. By having so many different payers of healthcare fees, there is an enormous amount of administrative waste generated in the system. (Just imagine how complex billing must be in a doctor’s office, when each insurance company requires a different form to be completed, has a different billing system, different billing contacts and phone numbers—it’s very confusing.)
In a single-payer system, all hospitals, doctors, and other healthcare providers would bill one entity for their services. This alone reduces administrative waste greatly, and saves money, which can be used to provide care and insurance to those who currently don’t have it."
This is exactly my objection to President Obama's proposal. It would still allow private monopolistic corporations, with excessive administrative and executive compensation costs, to set prices high enough to still make a profit. Why should the sick have to pay for all these seperate systems when the job could be done by a bunch of GS-12 clerks with a really big computerized database? Like to one handling Medicare or Veteran's pensions?
the advocates for singlepayer still wont answer one question
where are you going to get the 2-5 trillion dollars A YEAR to pay for singlepayer
NHS (UK) costs about $200 Billion/year to cover 55 million people, of all ages. Given that, in proportion, a similar system would cost $1.2 Trillion in the USA. Under the current system, the governments (federal and states) is spending over a trillion dollar already ($1.029 Trillion in 2010), and to cover only a small fraction of the population.
Doing so would eliminate the need for businesses to spend billions they do on providing health care coverage to employees. Instead, they can always pay a fraction of those costs in taxes towards single payer system, and take the savings to invest in their businesses. It is a win-win for them, and for people not having to rely on employers to provide health care insurance.

and mediciad (our quazi singlepayer) costs 320 billion FEDERALLY (plus what the states pay) to cover less than 35 million people
also the average salary for a nurse in europe is about 18-25k( just over what we would call poverty)...while here in the states the average salary for a nurse is 40k-70k
yes businesses would love to see a singlepayer..they would save bunches of money..the person to get screwed would be the workingclass taxpayer who is trying to earn a living while getting taxed to death

I don't know about a nurse, but my brother-in-law, a doctor, does just fine and is more than happy to be working in the UK.
Now, your fantastic idea about getting taxed to death is amusing. If anything, continue the good old days you can't live without, I see, is the perfect ticket to death for this country and future generations.
Again... the US governments already spend over a trillion dollar a year to provide health care to a fraction of the populace, or about 40% of the total health care costs.

You don't have to have insurance. You should pay cash. Do you?
