That is not because of a shift in its underlying prospects, but because of a comprehensive update to the national accounts by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, producing the most dramatic change to the way gross domestic product is measured in more than a decade, with preliminary estimates adding about 3 per cent to US GDP.

I don't see the problem. It is being made retroactive so (presumably) there will be consistency among the data. Corporations do that too when they change accounting methods. It says the reason for the change is to count intangibles and the changed it in '99 to count computer software.

How do Liberals and Democrats fix a sluggish economy?

Pump billions & billions of dollars every month into it? Nope - tried that and it didnt work. Just fudge the numbers and make it LOOK like the economy is growing....yea, thats the ticket. That is what our government is going to do in July.

Just watch out for some kind of tax angle coming out of this.

Your first source explains how certain items, are not included in our present GDP accounting practices.
Today things like film royalties and spending on research and development, are not included in our GDP calculations.

Your second source speaks of the same things.

What problem do you have with adding these things to our GDP calculations ??
