Darn those mean FIFA people!

With or without scarves, judging from the photo the Iranians must be among the prettiest of all teams

This is tough, because it really is a danger in a close contact sport (for both the person wearing it and others - I broke my finger when it got caught in a neck band thing)...but you want to respect their culture and their religious tenets.

I think safety will have to prevail (pre-veil?).

"Today the Olympics are celebrated for their noble ideals of competition, friendship and culture."

Religion takes a back seat to the rules of the game. If you can't do that, then you can't compete. It's a very simple thing.

No country whose team(s) fails to meet the IOC's rules is allowed to participate in the Olympic games. Sharia is struck down once again!

In a sport as rough as Soccer can get, the LAST thing you really want to do is cover the head/neck area. In the event of injury, it can be deadly trying to remove a covering such as they have, making it very much unsafe.
