BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. -- A man caught speeding through a school zone and then arrested for cursing out a Boulder County deputy will soon be $20,000 richer.
Bob McIntosh, 51, won a settlement from the county, arguing that he was arrested without probable cause and in violation of his free speech rights, his attorney said Wednesday.
Good. People shouldn't be arrested for saying disagreeable things. I have no problem with the ticket, but the man didn't commit a crime that warranted arrest. Often police do a great job, but we can't allow them to abuse their power. People should know their rights and challenge abuses of power in court, so kudos to this guy.

Read your local statute regarding disorderly conduct. Around here it gives the police broad powers to arrest anyone if they feel they need to in order to get a situation under control as well as maintain order and safety. See the Beer Summit arrest as an example. There was no suit by the race baiter Gates on that one because he hade no grounds.....
