FCC chairman agrees to strike Fairness Doctrine from rulebooks

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski said his agency will remove the Fairness Doctrine from the rulebooks in response to a recent request from House Republicans.

"I fully support deleting the Fairness Doctrine and related provisions from the Code of Federal Regulations, so that there can be no mistake that what has been a dead letter is truly dead," Genachowski wrote in a letter Monday to House Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.).

How did this guy slip by? Who cares - it's good news.

It's official then -- the airwaves no longer belong to the people.

Now broadcasters -- all big corporate suits -- can fill our minds with fluff discussions, "reality" programming, and other mindless drivel.

Kinda reminds me of They Live: Conform. Consume. Sleep. No Independent Thought. Obey.

?? People can watch or listen as they please or not watch or listen as they please but the government won't be able to dictate programming.

It must really suck for you when those "big corporate suit broadcasters" come to your home, strap you down, insert earbuds into your ears and play their "fluff discussions, "reality" programming, and other mindless drivel" against your will. I can't imagine being in a situation like that where you have absolutely no control over what you listen to. The humanity!

You obviously don't understand the principles behind the Fairness Doctrine, because it nor the FCC dictate programming.

Seems the indoctrination by the corporate media owners has been successful ... on you. How sad.

And that ability was violently yanked away from every single person - the people - the very second the FCC took away the peoples rights by virtue of what it does, by design. Taking the airwaves away from the people is practically the sine qua non of what the FCC is about. It's literally their mission. It is what they do. Oh, and tampering with free speech. Yes, another wonderful benefit they bestow upon the people.

Yep, but they don't understand that because they were "told" that having it is a good thing and having the government dictate who and what can be on is better for them. That is, they have already been programmed what to think.

Actually, you are the one who does not understand. Let me guess, you are a big "Net Neutrality" fan as well?

Seriously, educate yourself instead of indoctrinating yourself at political sites.
