Ala, the 1930's. Keynesian-style economic policies always extend and eventually worsen an economic turndown.
What is astonishing is people continue to deny it. On this very thread there are people who deny debt has skyrocketed while barely moving the needle on unemployment. It is so strange.
I think the GOP would love to think they can "control" the economy but this is at the heart of the problem. The economy is not a thing, it is the individual actions of 310 million people.
Thank God that the Obama Tax Breaks for the Wealthy were extended this past December or unemployment would've been 15% or higher. See, tax breaks do "trickle down".

That is without question true. However government policy can influence the activities of 310 million people. Suppose the Government wanted to reduce gas usage. How do you think they can do that? Increase the tax on gas. Futher suppose the government wanted people to spend more money. Do you think cutting their taxes could accomplish that? I do.
Government action has many intended and unintended consequences on how people behave.

LOL, who's whining? I am not asking government for anything. I am informing you we will fix the problems this administration has caused by tossing it out on it's ear next election.
We?
The Republicans?
Lol...You Republican Socialists are only upset because the Democrats are spending money on their priorities.
Fix? You had years to fix, yet you created nothing but one mess after another. You neocons are a riot and tons of fun.
Tell us more jokes.
I want to hear the one about how to crater the World's most powerful economy in 8 years or less.

Influence sure, in the big picture we have have a completely new system of taxation and regulation we would see positive things happen. Unfortunately, until we see those changes, a change in our monetary system (debt free currency) and allow all of our bad assets and debts to fail, we are just tinkering around the margins with political favors.

Without the ability to invest in innovation and projects that create jobs, there will be, ala 1937, prolonged recession. The Repubs control the House, if the House does not allow the investment, then the Repubs can and are extending the problem. This is nothing other than for political gain. Perhaps if the House is returned to the Dems, we can resume a speedy recovery.

lol...Oh good lord.
The cut taxes thing. Taxes haven't been raised so what's your excuse....without whining.
Hmm...looks like folks are still using the ole gasoline no matter what the tax policy is...well until your guys are in charge. The plan is to raise the tax to reduce usage, correct? Good luck, we'll see if you can do what $130.00 a barrel couldn't.

My goodness, why is it you regard every discussion as whining? Is this some sort of projection?
In any event you have done a nice job of taking my entire post out of context well done. Since I see you are a little, well, challenged . I 'll explain to you what me and the nice man were discussing . You see the poster I responded to claimed the Government can't direct the economy. Now I made the argument that the government can certainly influence behavior through tax policy.
Now you somehow feel that is not the case. You are entitled to believe that, but you would be wrong.
Cheers!
