Glad you and I have similar views on constitutional reform. I will go as far as to state that Obama should be the last executive president. It would be a good transition point that would symbolize a new beginning.

Agreed, but we'll probably have to have one more (probably a Republican) who will be such a complete and utter disaster as an executive.
Only can be done by amending the constitution to have a different voting system. First past the post defaults to a 2 party system. Voters are NOT being stupid -- they are just doing what this system naturally has them doing.

FPP doesn't necessarily default to 2-party, but I agree that it needs to be done differently.
I support an Instant-Runoff Vote for 450/500 House Members (yes I support increasing the number), all Senate members, and the President.
For the remaining 50/500, I support a party list vote where a party will gain a member of the house for every 2% of the population that supports them.
Oh stop, what a silly thread. Virtually every third party candidate we have had has been a nut. Run a candidate who isn't crazy and a third party could win. Look at Joe Liberman.

Well, I'm all for this.... The issue is about what happens in the "transitional" period...
Many of us are "lesser of two evils" voters right now. There's a fear if you stop voting for YOUR "lesser of two evils" party (whichever it may be) that the GREATER evil will win the election...
So we get caught in a circle of two-party voting....

Actually, juppiter has it spot on - Google Duverger's law for a detailed explanation of why a system like the one in the US will default to two parties.
