A lot of rich don't pay Fed income taxes.........many of the wealthy have their incomes tied to their businesses. Therefore they collect a VERY SMALL income and they get taxed accordingly. Example: Steve Jobs INCOME from Apple is $1/yr......sure, go right ahead and tax his INCOME. It's only $1.
Warren Buffett: $100K/yr....go ahead and tax him...you'll get all of $20K.
Warren Buffett is a BIG advocate for increasing income tax for the wealthy..I wonder why. Many wealthy don't collect income or if they do, it's a small amount.
There is a reason why the wealthy are wealthy. Instead of going against the system, they follow the rules.

I am really sick of hearing the fallacy that all of the problems with the economy are because of the poor...or giving money to the poor. This is the biggest lie out there.
Well that's just too bad because the economy wouldn't be nearly as bad as it is today if the government weren't constantly seizing wealth and private property from productive citizens and redistributing it among less productive people all in the name of "helping the poor". Penalizing productive people and rewarding unproductive people yields no incentive to work harder and pull oneself up the social latter. On the contrary it encourages the recipient class to remain unproductive and live off of the productive class generation after generation.

These people are paying taxes on capital gains; however, the percentage is somewhere at 15%, below that of what a person in the middle class would be paying. This is thanks to Bush and Reagan tax cuts. It used to be closer to 50%
Who are the really rich that you are talking about? I assuming you are not talking about the forbes 400?
No... you want to find out who they are? Then you need to take off the ideological blinders... because you will find those who you like in that group... its quite simple, all you need to do is follow the lobbyist trail... all of them, not any one of them is of any good... not the pro-choice, anti-abortion, more/less medicare advantage, ANY of them... you follow that trail and you'll know who are the REAL problems in America... they are not pushing their laws for your benefit, there is money involved, there is always money involved... and lots of it... the real criminals are liberals, republicans, democrats, and conservatives alike... all too often, I see people pointing to one group... they don't know the first thing about reality...

Look at the folks running the treasury and stealing all our money. Goldman, JP Morgan, Wells Fargo, BOA, Citybank. Then we have another trillion ready to pay off the unions by the folks in the White House to boot. There is nine trillion dollars unaccounted for as admitted by the solicitor general of the treasury during qustioning in house of rep committee. Where is it? Poof. Now we hear there is no physical gold. Gone. Poof. Ron Paul asked hey its the people's gold its worth 2k an ounce now why not sell it. They say oh we don't have it. Poof. Gone. They are the crooks your speaking of along with all the politicians in DC.

We agree on something. I have always said follow the money. I am not an idealogue.
After all the rich pay plenty of other taxes: sales taxes, property taxes, gasoline taxes, payroll taxes, social security taxes, state and local income taxes, luxury taxes, etc, and they pay way more of those taxes than any poor and middle income people. So if they already pay all of these taxes, why should they pay any federal income taxes if the poor don't have to? Discuss.
If you are a high income earner, you've received the greatest monetary reward society has the to offer. In return for recieving the reward you should contribute more to society than those that aren't rewarded as much.
Also because you are wealthy your contribution to society is liable to have less of an impact on your overall living circumstances than somebody at a lower income level.
Now if you are selfish or simply don't give a damn about your fellow citizens you definitely won't feel this way, which explains in large part the Conservative mindset.
It's exactly the attitude expressed by the OP as well of "the poor don't pay income taxes, so why should the rich?!" Those lucky ducky poor people, managing to finagle their way out of paying income taxes! If only the rich could be so lucky!
Believe me many of them are trying which why support for guys like Tim Pawlenty and his 25% top income tax rate will at least keep him in the running for the Republican presidential nomination.
