when america was young, i imagine most jobs were necessary and society-building, over 95 percent i'd guess. just a guess because i wasn't alive in the 1700's
now we seem to be w x h x ores to whomever has the big bucks. we don't care what the employer's philosophy is just as long as he has mucho mulah to flow out and down to us. he could be a complete misanthrope and/o sociopath yet we won't blink an eyelash as long as he gives us income.
These people make the money they do because people are willing to spend their time watching the game on tv, or to attend. I don't have an issue with athletes making whatever the market will provide. I do question the people that will waste their time and money to see supposed adults playing children's games, thereby making such a situation possible.
I also question those that justify a pro athlete or pop star making millions, yet will condemn a small business owner that has put his life savings on the line to start a company, as making too much off the backs of his employees. The very employees he has created the jobs for...

If people want to pay to see a sports star perform and the star makes a lot of money so be it. One thing I like to see is sports stars who are doing positive things with their money like opening businesses that are putting many in their communities to work (Aaron Brooks has a real estate endavor that is creating jobs in my hometown of Hampton, VA for example) and doing a lot of charity work (which the media won't cover over stars being locked up.)
I believe that cap is for the whole team and not the individual player.
I believe its somewhere around 45 million so if a team spends 10 million on one player they now only have 35 million to pay the rest of the team.
is this similar in parts of europe? if so, which nations?

Personally it turns me off to sports. What it indicates is that America is so wealthy, that its citizens are able to pour billions of dollars in the idle pursuits of the entertainment industry.
