Only 5% of mankind has known the freedom and prosperity we cherish and others envy.

Pride in my nation was not only taught to me by my parents, it was a big part of my education, when pride in the USA meant something and kept us safe and free, with liberty and justice for all.

It is funny how some of you seem to miss the origins and goals of the pledge or it is so upsetting you block it from your mind.

The pledge was created by a SOCIALIST to get us used to pledging our allegiance to the state and not to the ideals of freedom. His goal worked very very.

The pledge is Progressive not saying it is freedom!

Once again, the faux conservative right-wing authoritarians fail to grasp that forcing or coercing children to pledge allegience to anything directly violates the letter and spirit of our nation's most sacred principles.

Color me unsurprised.

Goes back to my complaint that American history must not be taught at all in our schools....or SOME were always "at recess".

Have you been on another planet??? You can't SEE what's going on in the US????????

You think what's happening, and has happened in America is just fine?????

You think your "god" doesn't like other countries!!!!?????

You think your "god" ONLY created prosperity and freedom??? That's it!?

He couldn't do anything else?

You really think bad things ONLY happen to bad people????

Did you just call me a "Progressive"? Really? You do realize that the Pledge was written by a Socialist, right? Also, how is the idea that the government should serve the people a Progressive idea? Let me refer you to Thomas Jefferson:
Quote:
Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed
Let me ask you this: If the Pledge of Allegiance isn't an oath of loyalty to the government of the United States, who is it an oath to? The flag - a piece of cloth? The flag represents the government of the United States, and the Pledge of Allegiance is swearing an oath of allegiance to that government.

I'd imagine children in N. Korea swear a similar oath to their leader every day.

Did you know that 97% of statistics are made up on the spot?

Anyway, the question isn't whether you think the US is the bestest, it's whether children should be forced to swear an oath of loyalty to their government each morning.

I think that the limits on government and the protection of individual liberty and free thought that was built into the government of the United States is the best government that's yet existed in the world. Sadly, those limits and protections have been slowly chiseled away over the years.

That said, I don't find the forced/coerced recital of the Pledge of Allegiance to be much in line with the spirit of individual liberty.

Liberalism is dead, as the insanity of its core beliefs are starting to unwind. Obama has been helpful in this regard.
Liberals or anyone living off the government teat, should love this nation. They should be the last ones to complain about anything. However the opposite is true, because entitlement...

Spoiler
just breeds demand for more entitlement.
