I don't know which "he" you're talking about, but did this "he" ask you for money recently? If not, why do you care? Plus, stan4's friend thinks those are the people out of work (the McDonald's/Home Deopt employees).

I've had a number of relatives who've worked in construction for years. When they reached their 50's, they were no longer able to keep up with the younger workers. They simply did not have the strength and endurance. The result of this meant they were not getting jobs with any regularity, and this was in a much stronger economy, not our current one.

No one is going to hire someone to do manual labor that is middle aged and has never done manual labor previously, especially if they can get a younger person who may or even may not have experience.

BTW KentuckyDad, your career info is not listed on your profile.

Let's just say I don't do full manual labor like farm workers, but it's not sitting behind a desk in a climate-controlled office all day. I probably sweat and freeze more in one year than people do in a lifetime.

Don't bet on that one...

Try working outside in Michigan.

Absolutely. We have a segment of the population, a growing one, that is unable to offer much to an employer because they can't care for themselves without help of some sort. We also have fewer jobs that now require more education. It's the ugly truth but it's were things collide and we can't pretend otherwise.
