Isn't this part of the enviromental cycle tree huggers are fond of? What exactly is the problem. I'm a city boy so I don't know much about cats in the wild.
YES! MY cat does keep the rabbit and mouse population down in my yard and garden! She's a great cat!!!
That explains why I've been seeing my neighbors cat on our property. We do get rabbits but since we don't grow any vegetables and don't particurly care about our lawn we leave them be. Looks like the cats have taken notice of their prescence though.

The birds were there to get killed by the cats....
"The birds were there"....then I guess the cats aren't such a big threat.....
Ya, let's all focus on those darn cats and then we won't see the big picture of how pollution, deforestation, and development by HUMANS has decimated wildlife ....
Cats act out of instinct(if you don't like that then speak to whatever created them)
Cats are one of the few animals (like Humans) that will keep on killing even after the need to fill their stomachs. Mink are another. I've seen both kill and leave their prey to rot.
I wonder how many mice, rats and other pests cats prey on. We kept a pride of semi feral cats when I was a kid. They brought home a lot of rats to supplement what we were feeding them. It my step father took all the cats away the house was soon infested with rats. We soon had another pride of stray cats.
Ever consider that continuous predation just breeds faster songbirds.
FWIW - Eagles, Owls and large Hawks return the favor. They hunt cats along with anything else they can kill quickly enough to avoid a fight.
I come from a farm background. There's a reason farmers keep a bunch of cats around.

Usually because the Coyotes keep eating them. I love flipping bales and watching the cats chomp on the mice that leap out.
