Obviously you've never seen a feral cat nor know the definition.
Feral means a domesticated animal that has returned to the wild, that is DIFFERENT from naturally wild animals. It is not as well equipped to deal with it's surroundings..OBVIOUSLY.
I HAVE seen feral cats... they are very emaciated and sickly, they carry disease, they are suffering.... and are the product of human stupidity......
Bull hockey. I've actually trapped feral cats, helped get them neutered, built outdoor shelters, and returned them to the outdoors. What have YOU done other than complain?
Oh, and these were not emaciated sickly animals that were suffering either.
And what you are describing is a stray cat, not a feral cat. Feral cats are descendants of domesticated cats that have returned to the wild. They are born in the wild and live their entire lives in the wild.
We need new Federal Legislation. We must register all cats and charge an annual ownership fee. Maybe require owners to go to an annual training class to get their cat license renewed.
That would add jobs... the need for cat ownership trainers would skyrocket.

So what do we do about it? Ban cats, dogs, lizards, etc etc from being pets? I would love to see that... but I doubt pet lovers would... so what do we do... we regulate pet sales but that isn't working... people just aren't able to manage their pets as evidence by dogfights, animal shelters, etc etc... I wouldn't take away their right to own a pet... I have yet to see anyone come up with a plan and acted on it... they spay and neuter their pets but the problem is only getting worse so that isn't solving it either... anyone have a plan?

What about dogs, lizards, hamsters, snakes, etc... that would create even more jobs... but then the public might say that you are making so that the "rich" are the only ones who can have pets...

Ah, yes. Those pesky evil rich people. But aren't we planning to tax them into being middle class? Then they wont be able to afford cats either.

Oh, that's right , they have lttle tags on them signifying 'stray" or "feral"....
Either way it's stupid, and a waste of money, to put them back in the wild , many DO suffer and those bird lover's will agree with ME!

Actually, yes, they do. They clip their ears to show that they've been trapped, spayed/neutered and released. TNR is a very successful program when used consistently. I know that in my city, it has reduced one feral cat colony from hundreds to around fifty .
Anyway, back to the OP: interesting statistics that don't surprise me in the least.
