"Just having fun." You people don't care whose lives you negatively affect but you want everyone else to watch their behavior.

Ding dong ditch is NOT harmless fun. What if the guy worked night shift? What if he was old and it pained him to get up and walk bc of arthritis, etc? What if you admit that you are clueless to the facts behind this, including how many times these kids harrassed this dude?

How about parents effin' parent and teach their kids the difference between right and wrong and some consideration towards others...if this kid's parents had or if that shooter's parents had, this whole situation would have never happened.

Then he'd likely be facing manslaughter charges.

Any shooting, even in states with the Castle Doctrine/Stand Your Ground laws, has to be proven justified. I don't think there is anyone in this thread arguing that this specific incident would pass such a "reasonable man" test.

People don't always behave perfectly or use sound judgment. So what we have here is a kid committing a prank that should get a swat on the butt or grounding....but instead is in the ICU alive only because most of the blast was directed a couple inches lower.

Now, let's get to the truly damning part. He had to have shot that kid at fairly close range...probably even still in his yard to get that sort of clustering and damage. This means that either:

1) The guy sits around his house with a loaded shotgun and when the doorbell rings he rushes to shoot whomever is there. Unlikely to say the least.

or

2) The kid had rang his doorbell a few times so the guy CONSCIOUSLY DECIDED to go load a shotgun and wait for the person to come back so he could SHOOT THEM. That's premediated which is a scary insight to the guys mind that he laid in wait and upon seeing a young kid ring his doorbell, whipped open the door and shot the kid as he ran away.

Hey, he should have just shot the ground in his backyard if he wanted to send a message but no....he saw some 5foot tall 80lb menace to society and then shot them in the back.

The kid was freaking 12 years old.

Actually, it's almost certain he loaded a shotgun after the first few rings and waited for the next attempt. He saw the kid come ring it again swung open the door and shot him.

Pretty sure he'd get murder 1 or 2 for that one.

Should get.

Will get, hopefully.

For every violent offender that gets locked up, 100 non-violent residents should be freed.

Had to be an ambush. I've been around guns all my life and thinking of my father as an example it would take him at least 30 seconds to leap from his recliner race to the other room pull out a shotgun, load it and return to the front door.

Even if you have a loaded shotgun close at hand there is no freaking way that without warning you just jump up and sprint to the front door every time the doorbell randomly rings in time to aim and fire at a kid still reasonably close to the door.

It was absolutely a repeat ringing where the shooter lay in ambush for the repeat offender. The prosecution will no doubt bring this sort of timeline up at a trial. "So sir, how did you come to open a door and bring a loaded shotgun to bear within 3 seconds of your doorbell ringing? Are you the Flash?"
