Two aides to former Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich (R) have been indicted for ordering what officials claim were deceptive robocalls intended to suppress Democratic turnout during Ehrlich's second run for the office last November.
Now before you go all Acorny and Black Panthery... these were state indictments.

Henson, who has a long history of dirty political tricks, has admitted he was involved in the calls, but his lawyer has argued in a civil case that the calls were protected free speech.

At first I thought this was kinda cheesy of Henson, still do, but his lawyer has a point.

Everyone has the choice to believe a robo call, or investigate the information as fact.

The old saying, "Do you believe everything you hear/read," comes to mind.

However, according to the document in the Balto Sun, it is expressly illegal to fraudulently attempt to influence the voter's decision whether or not to vote. So I don't think that would be covered under free speech in a criminal case.

If the aides wanted to avoid prosecution they should have joined the NBPP and stuck to voter intimidation at the polling place with nightsticks!

Then all the ads and publicity to, "get out the vote" are illegal?

No one physically blocked a polling place? Some word of speech were said. No physical action but running their mouth.

Not if they aren't fraudulent. This guy was part of a robocalling campaign that was specifically lying to voters to tell them NOT to go vote.

If they committed the crime they better go jail for it.

We in NJ are a perfect example of the deep-rooted problems you get when voters allow themselves to be governed by a corrupt political culture.

When you have one party, democrat, state you have to steal ideas from your opponents sometimes.

Md is well known for dead people voting for dems.
