What "fiasco"? These guys were on Church property and were just trying to get a rise out of somebody. Nobody "became too heavy-handed." The guys were just escorted off Church property and left to do what they wanted to do on city property. There's nothing wrong with that.
They never should have laid a hand on those guys, and ended up leaving bruises. I'd say that was "heavy handed." The charges were dropped for a reason, mostly because the LDS claims of "lewd" behavior could not be substantiated. I'd imagine the claim here is the same thing. Somebody saw two gay men, and overreacted, accusing them of "inappropriate behavior" and threw them out of the pool.
The church stated that they would have escorted a straight couple off for doing the same thing, but we all know that's BS. Watch 2:08 and you'll see a straight couple kissing and holding hands without issue.
I guess it depends on the PDA. I mean, would two friends (or two brothers) hugging each other upon meeting be inappropriate? Not to me. How about a quick kiss, whether on the cheek or on the lips? That wouldn't bother me. How about greeting a family member one hasn't seen in a while? Sorry, but when my brother and his wife come to town, they both get hugs and kisses from this 61 year old gal and the same when they are leaving. Because if either of us were to die before they can visit again, I'd want them to remember that I love them.
Some of the people posting on this thread would have a mental breakdown if they lived in Europe. We'll kiss and hug anyone! I hug my gay friends every time I see them.....nobody even turns their head. Oh our American cousins, what ever are we going to do with you....

We don't need the condescending crap from Europe about how well "evolved" and "accepting" you are. I have seen men of other cultures greet each other with a kiss, it's not the same thing and you should know that it's not the same issue, and instead you make patronizing comments about Americans.

Another who obviously has NOT read the article! Sheesh! They weren't "making out"! They were sitting near each other, one possibly on the other's knee and he put an arm around his friend's shoulders. And, like a few others have already asked, how did the lifeguard identify that the men were gay? I mean, sometimes friends like to show their friends that they care about them. Like when I give my sister-in-law a kiss and a hug when she and my brother leave my city after a visit.
I wasn't talking about these two, I was making a point regarding something another poster had said.
And yeah, how DID the lifeguard identify they were gay? Good question.
The two bolded sentences make the point I've been trying to make since I started posting in this thread - their behavior could as easily been two brothers, a couple of cousins or simply two friends. That the employee saw it as a gay couple shows nothing more than HIS homophobia.
I'm sorry, but no man I know who is straight would casually sit on his friend's lap, or his father's lap (unless he's like 8 y/o), or his brother's, etc. You are seriously reaching with this line of reasoning.
I wouldn't want a gay couple swapping spit around me either.
The fact that you support a sick-twist nimrod like Sarah Palin speaks VOLUMES about your character, or lack thereof. And you're not fooling anyone, idiot - you're no "alpha male" - you're just a typical insecure male who's afraid of his own sexuality so you have to demean others. In case you didn't know, it's called being a bully, and everyone knows that bullies are nothing but ****ed-up crybabies. A REAL man is accepting and tolerant. You're just a pathetic redneck and I bet you're real proud of it, too.
Honestly, why would any thinking, rational, compassionate human being ever want to live in a place as ****ed up and backward as the South?
