Certainly they have plenty of pews (aka benches) and could afford a few sleeping bags from those Sunday collections.

WWJD?
Why have people sleeping on hard pews when the churches have places for them with comfortable beds? That does not make sense.

Our city has the Lord's Diner where the homeless can get a free meal each day, a place they can sleep, etc, etc, etc.

Why don't you get out there to see what is all available. The churches are wanting volunteers to help----have you ever volunteered? Guess not or you would know better.

Maybe you should start goggling Church's and checking their websites to see what churches do. Here is the FIRST one I checked in my area.

Missions - Good Shepherd

Here are just a few of their programs.

T.H.E. Milestone - Also an outgrowth of RFKC and in partnership with Salt Lake County and the State of Utah foster program and housing authorities, this is “The Transitional Experience Milestone” project, which offers qualified youth living quarters, in a safe environment, as a training and intermediate step to prepare for independent living. At the age of 18, foster care youth are released from the state’s guardianship. We desire to partner with these youth to enable their successful transition into the community.

Family Promise - In partnership with other churches from the area, Good Shepherd opens its doors to Family Promise-qualified families with small children to live and sleep within its facilities. These families are temporarily homeless and would otherwise be living in shelters or on the street. They simply need a safe environment and time and stability to find consistent work, skill training, and save money to rent an apartment. Many have sat a meal with our guests to enjoy them and delight in conversation.

Salvation Army - Every 3rd Sunday of the month, Good Shepherd members bring sandwiches, fruit, clothing, etc. to the Salt Lake City Salvation Army and help to service the evening meal, wait on tables, engage the guests in conversation, and minister through prayer. We are known for the best and largest variety of deli-quality sandwiches made throughout the entire valley.

Parish Nursing - Our qualified nurses offer frequent health fairs to the community (blood pressure, diabetes checks, flu shots, medical counseling, etc.) and attend to the health needs of our shut-ins.

Angel Tree & Shepherd’s Angels - This is our annual Christmas outreach to families with small children who are in financial need within our community. These children often have incarcerated parents and/or live in impoverished conditions.

Are these ok with you?

You obviously haven't checked into this before you asked the question. If you had you'd learn of all the ways churches help and house homeless people. That's where, in part (aside from utilities, insurance, maintenance, labor, ETC...) the money from tithing goes. You know, that collection plate that gets passed around that so many resent and ridicule?

Why don't you believe it? Why do you think we're for less social programs and smaller government? Think about it. If the government takes less money from us we have more to spend on charity and helping people. Libs on the other hand, tend to think government should take care of it instead of personally doing it themselves.
I don't believe it because it's not true.

Secondly, you guys aren't for less social programs and smaller government. If you were, your party would've delivered on it. They never have. And they never will.

they do, they do. if you would go to church you will see that they do! homeless in America are cause by personel problems and not because they are poor. you can give one of those homeless people a million dollars and they will be on the street with in a very short time!! the liberal safty net you are talking about depends on very few rich people. what about the other 90% OF aMERICAN! why should they sit back and watch the rich take care of things, thats unAmerican!! you liberal can open up your own buildings for homeless people just like churches do all the time! that would be a great liberal safty net, put your money and heart where your mouth is!!!!!

And why don't YOU try reading the thread? I have volunteered at a homeless shelter, taught homeless youth (as a volunteer) and volunteered at a food bank.

And just what buildings would those be? Churches are tax exempt. Where do you propose liberals go find tax exempt buildings?

use your imagination, since you will be helping the homeless maybe you can apply for an exemption. you can organize your liberal freinds into one big group and they can donate to buy a building for the homeless. liberal can never do that because to do that you need a real heart to take on somthing like that. liberal just want to pass on their problems on to the government and wash their hands!!! heartless is what is called!

In High School we are conditioned to automatically be against the other team no matter their record, or who their players are. Politics is no different, I give misty the benefit of the doubt because her team has conditioned her nicely.

The same holds true for the opposing team, when confronted, the goal is not to find common ground but defeat the opposing team.

The truth is many Christians and churches are very helpful to the needy, many liberals work and volunteer often to help the needy. If both side could resist the urge to belittle and cause fights the synergy would be so much greater.

As it is now, conservatives hold back when attacked and liberals look only to public solutions. Working together would be a much better solution.
