Besides, it's like ending homelessness. Does every bum on the street really WANT a home and place to live? No. Some are completely happy living on the streets without the responsibility. Don't make the mistake and assume that every individual is responsible.
You can't end poverty because everyone doesn't have the determination to raise themselves out of poverty. When you're given things you don't appreciate them anyhow. It's a never ending struggle for some people just to survive. We've all got free will. They have to will themselves out of poverty, not just be given a handout.

No but we can work to make poverty or low level subsistence something that is not all encompassing. By that I mean if we work on the shelter issue we could have people who would rather have a low level of consumption but not need to worry about the basics of where to live.

No because poverty is relative. If we can get everyone food, clothing and shelter, then medical care might be considered a necessity. Communication and Internet access is becoming a right even for the poor. The disadvantaged are those who have only dial up, for instance.
....there always have been and always will be poor people....life is not fair, no matter how much you would like to think you can 'fix' this problem...just ain't gonna happen...
