At this point it's a huge advance to have a budget at all.

Who runs the senate? Would that be repubs or the dems?

Another 'failed thread' by bob...
"Who runs the senate? Would that be repubs or the dems?"

This was yet another in a long line ofproposed legislation killed by the GOP minority, by virtue of the threat of filibuster. Although 51 votes constitutes a majority, it now takes 60 votes to reach cloture, so the bill comes up for a vote in the first place.

Either you already knew that, and you're being dishonest, or you didn't and... well, I'll let you fill in the blank if that's the case!

Remember- the GOP's main job right now is to make sure things stay as @#$%^& as possible till the 2012 election. If you keep that in mind EVERYTHING they do makes perfect sense!

If there is less than a 60 seat super majority, no one "runs" the Senate.

Its part of the genius of the Senate, it prevents one party from running buckshot across the nation, because the extremes of either party are always wrong.

More accurately and without the ridiculous partisan paranoia and hyperbole; The GOP's main job right now is representing the wishes of their constituents. That includes opposing bills their constituents disagree with.

If you keep that in mind their actions regarding this bill make perfect sense.

Help me understand this. Don't the Dems control the Senate 51-49? I think the question is, why don't the Dems want a jobs bill?

From your link.

"A bill to fund the Economic Development Administration (EDA), a measure Democrats characterized as a “jobs bill,” was stopped from advancing in the Senate Tuesday in a 49-51 vote."

The thread title is absolutely misleading and wrong. The Republicans did not kill a "jobs" bill; they killed a bill to create yet another federal government department.

The first line of the link states: "A bill to fund the Economic Development Administration (EDA), a measure Democrats characterized as a “jobs bill,” was stopped from advancing in the Senate Tuesday in a 49-51 vote."

Since when is YET ANOTHER GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT a way to encourage job growth? Is the problem that we don't have enough federal departments? Hardly.

A REAL "jobs bill" would be a bill that gave employers a tax break whenever hire someone new. But as usual, nobody in our current government will do ANYTHING other than constantly increase the size of a Big Government that is already crushing our economy with regulations and taxation.

somehow I doubt it.
If the GOP forces the US to default on its debt, and the world economy crashes, we'll be starting over all right- under Obama-imposed martial law.

And don't let me hear you @#$%^ when it happens!

If it happens it will be because Dems refuse to make any cuts to close a $14 trillion debt.

So you're essentially saying the GOP should just roll over, play dead, and let Democrats that played a very large role in creating our current financial mess control all the shots.

Sorry, I don't much care for either party but allowing one free reign based on fear mongering of it's supporters strikes me as a particularly foolish approach to solving a problem.
