I think you will find that the real world is a more accurate reflection of the real world.

I so dang agree. The only time i ever hear of racial issues is on this dang forum. I do not think about it one iota, till i am on this forum. I have never heard any discussions of reparations except for on this forum and reading a post on this now. The only people i believe who truly have problems with these issues, are those starting these threads!!!!!!!!!

Since the OP hasn't addressed these yet, I will. Both are old as dirt. The Legal Interest article is from 2002 the link to wikipedia also speaks of a conference as current as 2001, so about 10 years old. One of the members of the National Coalition blah-blah-blah is actually Louis Farakan, who is a huge crock of you know what IMO and a lot of opinions of a lot of black people.

Where is the new data that shows we all want a hand out?

The OP does have a point. The majority of black people do not care about reparations. I don't think something like that will ever happen and I am not putting my life on hold waiting for some sort of hand out. I would support a reparations scholarship program but would only do so if the youths who benefit from it are qualified academically to get into the particular college or university that they want to attend. I don't even think that will happen and don't think about it either on any regular basis and will only mention it if someone asks me. Usually it is a white person or some anonymous poster online.

All that said, there is a small segment of the black population who really want reparations to happen. I know a couple people, whom I refer to as "race men" who do bring up the topic, but even they agree that they do not want a check just to go out to all those who can claim ancestry from former slaves and most like my idea of a scholarship or some sort of healthcare plan to dismantle the "slave mentality" that they feel some black people possess.

I also agree that most of the race items brought up here on CD are not relavant at all to black people. Black people aren't the blind followers of Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakan, or Jesse Jackson, most do not have a good opinion of any of these guys.

I have and do listen to a lot of right wing radio shows and they bring up reparations all the time and other race issues that black people don't speak or care about in order to rile up their audiences IMO. They also will bring up some sort of regional nonsense, like the ebonics thing that I have seen threads about here, and make out like it is a national issue. Really, it is all laughable and I pity the people who actually are worried about reparations or their kids being taught ebonics in school amongst other far flung topics brought up by this sort of media. I usually listen to it when I want a good laugh.

I could also dig up things about neo-Nazi groups and white supremacy but I don't bother because I know that it is not representative of the mainstream in the white community. The fact that you guys are dwelling on this fringe "reparations" issue which most people in the mainstream black community don't care about indicates an agenda on your part that is based on nothing but racial prejudice.

You got that right.

LoL, this coming from someone who says that America would be better off with less minorities around.

BTW, what issues do you perceive that I have in my life?

Well sorry to clip your wings supremacists, it doesn't work that way. Most people in the black community have bigger fish to fry than waste their time fantasizing about something they know they will never get. We have jobs to attend to, families to take care of, households to maintain just like you do. Like everyone else, we are struggling to keep our footing in this tough economy.

The idea of reparations is a joke in the black community... I don't know anybody holding their breath for that. Heck if you go on the street and ask the average black youth if they believe that whites should pay reparations to blacks they'll have no idea what you are talking about. It seems to be an obsession of racist whites suffering from the guilt of slavery more than anything else. How can you say that blacks won't get over slavery when you constantly bring this non-issue up?
I only brought it up in one thread of mine because, Al Sharpton, someone I regard as extremely educated on the topic of race as well as other topics, has made the point that slavery and segregation impacts African Americans living today. Al Sharpten says that, not just me or guilty white people.

I don't propose to speak for African Americans. I think the option for reparations should be available for those who feel they require it. If you don't, you don't have to accept it.

However I choose not to dwell on that because I know that these people are not representative of the mainstream. However if I had a racial agenda to push like some people around here, I probably would be bringing this issue up time and time again.

Al Sharpton is no the "leader of black people." Most black people have a poor opinion of him. It is strange that white people think that because he is black and has a big mouth that his views represents all black people in America.

It is the same with Jesse Jackson or Louis Farakhan. We do not all agree with what they say. Most of us do not pay attention to them. Why are you paying attention to them, they are media whores?

That would be like me saying that Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Chris Matthews, or Bill O'Reily represent all white people in this country. I know a lot of white people who despise either one or all of the above. Most do not care about what any of them has to say. Black people are the same.
