Why do people say or even think that the soldiers in Iraq are fighting for our freedom? Do people truly think our liberty was in danger at all. I do want to add that I do support our soldiers though.

This seems like an outdated question.

But I will say that I never agreed with the reasons behind it.

Yeah, I'm talking about both actually, and 47,000 troops is still a fair amount of troops that don't need to be there

I get to jump into my car and drive all over creation relatively cheaply still, thanks to Iraq...

I guess one could also view that our troops were not fight the germans for our freedom in WWII.Same logic.Just as england did not go to france to fight for their freedom.Nor us in Korea. Some would rather wait until pearlk Harbor ;I guess and fight on US soil.

That entire war just hasn't been worth all the costs. The war in Afghanistan is supposed to cost about one trillion dollars by the time it's over. I don't know about the war in iraq though.

That is a good point. Although, I think that less radical actions could have been taken to prevent a fight on U.S. soil.

My father and father in law retired from the military, my husband and son were in the military as well. I am a strong supporter of the military.

That said, I am not supportive of my country sending our citizens into wars without a clear objective, nor without proper armament, nor with confusing and conflicting orders. From Vietnam thru Bosnia to Iraq and Afghanistan, the objectives of wars have become more and more diffused and confused, less and less apparent, and increasingly unjustifiable. My attitude is that war is something that kills people. Don't start one unless you mean to 'have the other SOB die for HIS country'. Don't play political appropriation games, and don't use our soldiers as castrated chess pawns for your buddies to profit on the 'king me' game. Give them the weapons and protection they need to do their freaking JOBS efficiently, then get them the hell out. Giving other countries billions of our taxpayer dollars (that first one CIA-sponsored leader, than another, steals to build his own armies and political regimes) because we feel sorry for them just isn't good enough - and neither is giving our soliders to them to slaughter to make political or religious statements. Don't have the media's bubble-headed bleached blondes gush all over "our soldiers" while the politicians talk about cutting the funds for veterans' care, stopping paychecks to thwart a phony 'government shutdown' that never existed, and cutting funding for armament and on-site defenses, all the while trying to micro-manage officers with their boots on the ground from a comfy seven-course dinner on the Mall.

That's just my opinion, though.
